Ok I have this problem with my grand am. I was at walmart when this happened and i was 30 miles away from home so i ended up getting stranded, but since then i changed the starter, replaced the battery, and i even changed out the starter relay. but with no avail it will not start. it wont even try to turn over, the only thing it does is lights and stuff come on. every now and then it will click just a little bit. I also tried jumping it off from the battery, and that didnt work either, it engaged but did not spin. but i can move my fly wheel with a screw driver. can anyone help me solve this problem? I can't figure it out and its driving me nutts..

You could have a bad ignition switch

If you have a wiring diagram you can determine which wire goes to the starter solenoid and check for continuity and voltage. You may find a diagram at autozone once you sign up for free. This is assuming I understand your post correctly, the comment it engaged but didnt spin is not too clear. Do you have a security light on constantly with the key in the run position?

I know where the wires are because they come up to the relay which is attached to the radiator. And I already checked the voltage on the starter. And with the starter. The Bendix comes out but does not spin the flywheel. But my flywheel is not locked up. And the theft sys light usually goes off when I try to start it

if the bendix comes out and it doesnt spin the flywheel the solenoid or the starter are bad, are you sure when you replaced the starter you reconnected all the wires in their correct positions?

Ya, people keep telling me its my ignition switch. I'm gunna see if that works. I'll buy one and replace it, if that doesn't work I'll just return it back to AutoZone since it'll have a lifetime warranty.

did you bench test the starter?

Had the same issue with my 99 grand am and, yes, its a bad ignition switch.

It wasn't the ignition switch it turns out that my wiring was burnt all the way up into my dash. Idk how but it was so I just went ahead and scrapped it. I bought it for a grand a year a half ago and made 515 from all the parts and scrapping it. Thanks for the help though guys
