hi im a new member i am trying to find out what kinds of motors are being able to be swapped in and out of my girls 96 sunfire with a 2.2L. honestly i am a honda and a gm guy i own a 1993 civic hatch back and a 1987 chevy camaro with a 350 4 barrle carb . im just trying to find out if there is any motors that can be easily swapped like a honda. ive been doing alot of research on this pontiac and all i keep getting is people telling me to do the pontiac gtp swap which there is no way in hell thats happenin too much money lol. but any wayz please help me out let me know of some sites. some advice my girl just wants a lil more power and i want to do a swap for here but i dont know what will bolt on to her cars chassis without doing modifications to the frame . thanx for all your help in advanced
 
i,ve heard the 2.4 is a good swap. that is frome a cavy gt and some sunfires. i've also seen ecotec swaps although they can be much harder since all of the mounting points are different. but hey there's always the gtp swap! ;)
 
go to the fiero section and look at my swap. then get a tape mesure and see if it will fit. still can get these motors cheap. best bang for the buck.
 
3.1 will bolt up but wiring is a pain

3.1 is a Killer!

Hey there...I have a '96 GT that I dropped a 3.1 Phase II in. 1/4 mile times are low 15's at 85 MPH. I beat supercharged 350's off the line and to 60', sometimes to 110'. My line times are usally .450's...the car launches great!
The engine bolts right in, even to the transmission. You have to put a shim into the upper right motor mount, other than that, it's a bolt in. You can visit www.j-body.org to find out more and see other swaps. This is also a great forum for purchasing performance parts for your car.
My car is dropped for competition on a set of Tokiko AGX gas adjustable shocks with Number One coilovers on Devino 17" alloy split 5-spoke wheels and Wanli Z-rated low profile wide track tires. I have upper/lower strut tower bars front and back/AEM shortram intake, AEM pulley wheels/cam gears, custom header-back exhaust with High-flow Magnaflo cat' into Numer One cannisters.
The car sounds MEAN. It's been on the dyno and is putting out 215 HP/ 185 ftlbs torque. It MOVES when you step on the gas! I smoke Vette's with regularity and Porsches are not even any fun to race. The computer has been rebuilt/replaced...there's no rev-limiter. Top end has yet to be reached. At Hot Import Nights this year, I smoked a pack of 15 Civics/Neons/Toyotas on a quick 10 mile "out and back" to burn off excess feul in our tanks. I hit the parking lot 200 yards ahead of the pack.
I'm going to try and swap out a stiffer, beefier rear end suspension. As it sits now, going around corners at speeds over 60 MPH produce a little understeer, the rear end breaks but is totally controllable and there is NO body lean at any speed reached so far.
I have thrashed it around Mid-Ohio several times and produce very competitive times within my class, usually beating out all the Civics/Neons, etc., losing only to the S2000's, Supras, etc.

there is no way your sunfire can beat 350s that are supercharged off the line trust me . i have a supercharged 350 in a s-10 and i have a 95 sunfire gt that im puting a 350 in and changing it to rearwheel drive

a phase 2 3.1 only puts out some 140hp and 185 ft.lbs torque, so that imaginary number you put in of 215 must mean u either turboed that engine or ur full of B.S, and it is rather hard to turbo a 3.1 as the compression/timing would need to be tuned to make it work. A quad 4 puts out more hp. Go check ur numbers again and then come back with some real stats.

Sorry to say but they made a 3.1 turbo in the 80's and I have a 91 sunbird stock that gets 15.93 in the 1/4 got me 3rd place last year bet a 5.0 mustang,z71,elcameno,and a s-10 on the strep it the driver not the car or truck you ither can drive or not.
 
a 15sec 1320 is not fast....... then again my car is slow too, but I don't brag about 15s runs;)
 
HAHA i have a sunflower too

Ive been thinking on dropping in a 3.1 on my lil sunflower for a while but i really dont need the headache... Can anyone tell me how the drive lines and front suspention would fit with the bigger engine?
