I have a 1997 Grand Am SE 2.4 and when I try to turn off my ignition it will not go to the off position but I can take the key out. I have been told the issue is everything imaginable. Everything from I new a new ignition switch, there could be an issue with some type of cable between my shifter and ignition as well as possibly an issue with my transmission linkage. Considering that I know nothing about these type of issues I'm at the mercy of these mechanics.... Is there anyone out there that has experienced this problem? Thanks!!!

It sounds like you have a bad lock cylinder. The fact that you can pull the key out when it is not in the off position is a pretty good clue. Dont you have a shop that you normally deal with and trust?

Hello mcoop2005. Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue with your vehicle. You mentioned you are at the mercy of these mechanics but have you taken your vehicle to a GM certified dealer to have your vehicle diagnosis? GM dealers have access to information that may be related to the concern you have. This information could identify the necessary diagnosis/repairs for your vehicle. If you need help locating a dealer in your area I would like to assist you in this matter.
