97 Pontiac Sunfire starts, but immediately dies. dash lights don't come on

My 97 sunfire will start but it will die immediately after. The dash lights don't come on when the key is turned. It will not start for a while, but then a few hours later it will start and run normally. I replaced the ignition switch and fuel filter. I've heard it could've been bad wiring or a computer problem. Just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else and what it was. Thanks.

when it does run do you have a check engine light on?
when it wont start, do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when you first turn the key to the run position?

The check engine light has never been on and i do hear the hum of the fuel pump when i start to turn the key.

You will have to do a fuel pressure test when the engine will not start as well as test for a spark in order to determine which system is causing the problem.
