Just finished putting my sunflower back together after doing the head gasket. Only problem is the fuel injector in cylinder one is dumping a hell of a lot of fuel, so bad that you can put your hand behind the muffler for a second and burn the fuel off your hand with a match lol (Don't try this at home kids). I know it's number one because it has a brand new plug in it and its still clean but very wet. Even with the injectors harness unplugged it's still dumping fuel. The engine runs surprisingly well on the remaining three cylinders, so I'm 99% sure the gasket job is good.

Just looking for a few ideas/opinions on where to go, too lazy to get in to it now so gonna have to wait till tomorrow.

It's got a new head gasket. Head was clean and straight with no visible cracks. I re-seated the valves, new valve stem seals, new intake/exhaust manifold gaskets, EGR and EGR manifold gaskets, intake plenum and valve cover gasket...And...new fuel injector O-rings?

do you have a check engine light on and if so what is the code? If the plug is wet you either have no spark or have an injector problem or bad compression. Have you done a compression test?

No check engine light. It was throwing P0300 which is random misfire so I'm leaning towards a fuel problem. Going to re seat the injectors first and see what happens. Think I may have busted the regulator when I tore it down as there was fuel leaking out of the middle, it was a bitch to get the nut off. Need to go borrow a compression tester.

It was the injectors...the O ring on number one was badly pinched...took them all out, greased them up and shes now firing on all four...smoking quite a bit but there's WAY too much oil in her. Did a change not long before the gasket job and prob poured an extra 2 quarts over the rockers and springs before I put the cover back on...DOH!

excellant, recommend you get some of that oil out of the engine, you dont want crankshaft aeration.

Already done ;) Smoke has pretty much all but gone, it's just burning off all the gas that was dumped in to the exhaust yesterday. First time I've done a head gasket but for anyone else out there thinking of doing their own...it is possible! Just read, read and read some more and TAKE YOUR TIME. The one thing I don't remember reading anywhere is to lube your injector O-rings before you put them back in! Could have saved me a bit of time and my neighbors a LOT of smoke.
