97 Sunfire Pontiac Transmission?

I'm dreading the answer but the question must be asked. Last night we heard a jerk in the car and stopped. We realized my genious Aunt had not changed the fluids in a very long time and the tranny fluid was BONE DRY. We got the fluid in there and now from Park to drive it jerks and from first gear to second gear it jerks... Please tell me its not the tranny going bad and that its some small fix that will cost lest than 100$ dollars!

once the car is in drive and you step on the gas do you hear a whining sound and the engine rpms go up but the car doesnt move in proportion to the engine speed?

sounds like sludge. try a trans slip additive. from my own experience, i wouldnt advise an expensive trans flush.
