Hi there,

I've got a problem with my 98 2.2L Sunfire, and it's really starting to drive me crazy.

The car has 270,000kms on it. When the car reaches normal temperature i have a hard time keeping the car running. It runs fine when my foot is on the accelerator, but as soon as a slow down to stop it begins to sputter, and sometime gets itself into an "idle surging" mode.

It's running at about 500 rpms when it wants to die.

If the car is cold then the only problem i have is a slight miss or irratic idle.

As well...If the car sits out in the sun or i have gone on a long drive with it, when i try to restart the car it will crank over, but will not start unless i push the accelerator to the floor.

The ECM has been tested by a shop and it still works fine (my connections to it are all clean and good), new fuel filter, new spark plugs, spark wires, K&N air filter, coolant temperature sensor, tps sensor, iac valve, map sensor, used ignition module (but i have a new one coming), new crank sensor, both 02 sensors, coolant is full and my fan works. Have changed the oil 3 times since my ownership with synthetic oil.

The head gasket has been replaced in the car just previous to me buying it two years ago.

Vacuum system is all tight and cleaned out with seafoam. Ran seafoam through fuel system as well. Throttle body has no carbon at all.

Any ideas? The car never gives me any issues in the winter when it's cold, other than an irratic idle. It did this to me last summer too.

After my new ignition module arrives i may have to start looking at my fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator...?????

I'm getting frustrated!

have you tried replacing the Coil packs I cant remember where I read it but I read that coils could be causing this kind of problem... looks like you have replaced everything else in the ignition so you might as well replace those... under $40 each and I think you will need 2
