98 pontiac sunfire wont start just rapid clicking?

all the lights come on but when i turn the key it just makes a fast clicking noise

Might have a bad connection to the starter or battery posts. I would first rule out a weak battery by jumping or charging the battery you have. If all that is good the solenoid on the starter itself is the next step.

my 98 sunfire was doing that too, I just made sure all the connections on the starter were nice and tight, and it works well now

I had this same problem. I thought it was something like the electrical connections, but when i got my car towed and to the shop, they found it was the battery that was dead.
