A friend of mine is helping me remove a seized engine from my 98 2.2L Sunfire with an automatic transmission. We got most everything done already but have so far been unable to separate the engine from the transmission.

The Chilton's guide says to remove the transaxle with the engine and then separate them afterwards but I'd rather not mess with the transmission unless I really have to.

Has anyone here done this before? Should I just go ahead and take the transmission out with the engine or is there some trick to getting the engine out by itself?

You can pull just the motor, I've always pulled both, simpler to separate it after. At first glance ill bet your missing the torque converter bolts, which is the motors completely stuck you ain't them them out and I'd say u wont have the space to separate with the converter still bolted to the flex
