If anyone could help me figure this out I'd appreciate it. Yesterday my wifes car was fine when she left home and 20 minutes into her trip the car started blowing white smoke (very heavy smoke)and died. She was able to restart it and so was I once I got there. I noticed the smoke smelled like gas but no liquid came from the tailpipe. The oil and coolant looks excellent, which makes me doubtful that the head is the problem. I haven't gotten it tested for any codes yet. Could it be anything other than a head problem? Maybe a bad injector or the fuel pressure regulator? Any help is greatly appreciated!

did you look inside the oil filler cap for a brownish residue?

It's a 2.4. No residue, oil is nice and clean. I gave it a further look today and the problem is that it's flooding on one cylinder, the one all the way to the drivers side. I thought maybe the plug, so I replaced it and still it floods. Double checked the gaps to make sure they were right. The coils should still be fine too, they're only a couple of months old. It's just missing and flooding on the one cylinder. I am having trouble finding a good answer for that problem. I was thinking maybe it's a bad injector but I'd like to have a better idea about it before I drop $100 on one.

Thanks for all the help! I'll update when I get it fixed so maybe this thread will help someone else.

Tested the injectors themselves by actually switching the one from number 4 (the cylinder that's flooding) and still had the same issue. Finally got my hands on a scanning tool rented from autozone and the code that's the concern is P0200 bad circuit for the injector because of course it also told me that number 4was misfiring. So could it be the pigtail connector for that injector? I also had the ignition control module tested and its good. All other 3 injectors are working fine. I'm no mechanic, and I really don't have tge greatest tools, and I'm having a hard time finding an entire harness for the damn thing.Could it be something other than just the plug on it if I'm not having any issue with the others? Again, any kind of input will be appreciated.
