98 sunfire gt 2.4l timing chain knock

i have a 98' sunfire gt with a 2.4l twin cam. i recently replaced the water pump on it because it continued to overheat and give me lots of problems. when i did, the car never overheated, and i figured the problem was solved. now i ran into another problem. at idle, there is a loud ticking right where the timing chain is where i replaced the waterpump. ive been told that its the timing chain, and that it would need to be replaced. im not very good with these 4 cylinder cars, more used to V8's. never seen a waterpump run by the timing chain.


i need to find out what is needed to fix this problem

Well it's hard to tell you exactly what the problem is without seeing the car so based upon what you are saying the chain and tensioner have to be replaced.
