Hello, I apologize in advance if this first post is a lengthy one. Have a 99 Grand Am GT 3.4L with the ram air, the problem is that the camshaft is now broken in half. My question is if i had a 3400 engine out of an Alero, could i swap it in to the GA with the GA's intake on it and retain the ram air? It is my understanding that the Ram air is the only item that makes the 3400 the "High Output" version. Is that correct? Or am i way off base here? The local GM dealership said the "HO" has an oversized camshaft in it? Any truth to that or is the GM dealership blowing hot air?

Any help would be appreciated

A check of the engine specifications should answer measured differences. You would need to check and confirm that the sensors are compatible after that.

Not an expert on this, but the Alero is based on the same platform as the Grand Am... drive lines should be the same for both cars. I have heard of others making this swap with no real issues.

if you go to www.gmpartsdirect.com they list only one camshaft, did you go to the parts counter with your question or service?
