So I got this 99 pontiac grand am se v6 3.4 auto.
so I drove her home rattleing from rear end cant find the issue sounds like a strut mount but it doesnt have any play in the struts so I cant find it. but the more serious issue is When im driveing shes perfect for about 15 mins then the pass side gets a vibration like a loose tire or a flat or unbalanced tire. but only after shes been driveing for 15 or more mins. and the rim actually heats up I burnt my hand on it. I can get hubs cheap but this one is only a year old. the owner had them both replaced. the abs light is on but I noticed the drivers hub has the wires ripped out of it. So am I just looking at hubs or am I looking at cvs? perhaps traction control I shut it off when I drive the car I think its Retarded. Like antilock brakes hate em. But please help I dont want to waste more money on this on things that dont need to be replaced. Thank you

Pull the wheel off, check if you have a brake caliper problem related to the heating up of the rim. Otherwise try disconnecting the axle and see if it feels like bad bearings or the CV joint. CV usually makes noise when going in a tight circle.

When I had a hub/bearing go bad it started to growl and you could move the wheel side to side when jacked up . What ever it is it does not sound safe.

Okay took off the tires and put her in drive pass brake caliper wouldnt release enough to let the wheel spine but did compress when when I C clamped it. Should it be replaced? the brake pad looks worn and on the other side they look new. both tires spin fine w/o brakes on them. also Should I replace the hub that has the wires out? or will it be fine? it looks new other than the wires its the drivers side. the vibrations comeing from the pass.

Should I still replace the hub on the pass or just the caliper? Sorry im new to pontiacs my other car is an 86 mustang I dont know what to do with these newwer cars. and thank you everyone

You can try replacing the pads on both sides and hope that the caliper will not stick again. You should be able to tell based on the fact that the rim started to heat up from the stuck caliper, then you can replace the caliper if necessary. See if the vibration goes away after doing the brakes. The hub having the wires pulled is triggering the warning light for the ABS.

yea keeps sticking took it all apart and greeced it but no luck just wont open on its own. Doesnt hold the wheel still when driveing without pressing on the brake but wont open enough to not be rubbing on the rotor. So Ive got to replace that caliper. could that be whats makeing her shake so bad when I drive her for more then 15 mins heating up the hub maybe? Or is it possible the cv is bad wouldnt a bad hub or cv shake all the time? not just after driveing for awhile? the hub on the other side im going to replace because of the wires even though the three bolts on the back look a little stripped. what tool do I use to remove these? there kinna sunk in I dont think I could use a wrench and a ratchet doesnt look like there is room for it. Thanx again.

If this is on the rear, there should not be a cv joint. My guess is a sticking caliper.
