'99, 3.4 v6...a year ago i got an engine light,so went & checked it out. it was the iat sensor. i replaced it. and engine light was still on. so i drove on it for a year not caring..(foolishly). well come a year later.. (now) i cant pass my emissions test because of this engine light. so i really looked at the sensor and the wireing, and one of the wires coming from the sensor had a bit of the rubber coating missing off of it. which leads me to believe that it has shorted somewhere in the wireing. my question is how do i fix this?? (do i just follow the wireing threw the wireing harness all the way to the computer, and then replace these two wires?) or is it something more?? another thing to add. i had a new engine put in a year ago. its got about 10k on it. when i start it, a small puff of blue smoke comes from the tail pipes and when you rev it a small puff comes out as well. is that because of the iat sensor? i read that if the sensor is bad the fuel to air ratio will mess up.? is that because of that? and another thing, a year ago i had a short ram air intake put in. (could that be the cause for the short circuit?). ..sometimes when the engine is hot, the acceleration wont be as good. when you step on it, the engine will make noise, but it wont go as fast as it it was cold.??? iat??? new plugs. new wires, new filters, new fluids all around. always! please!!!! if there are some mechanics out there, could you help me out!!. i neeedd to pass this emissions thing.

i have the same problems. neither condition is related to the IAT. the reason for the blue smoke is oil leaking past the valve guides and into the combustion chamber. as it sits the oil rests on the valves and then when you start it, burns and makes blue smoke. as for the increase in performance when cold, cold air is denser than hot, denser means more air can be fit in the same space and consequently more fuel therefore the increase in power. ive replace the IAT with the engine light staying on but ive checked my wiring and it seems good. i'm thinking autozone sold me the wrong sensor because it looks slightly different than the one i had. if you noticed the same i would see about the sensor. if not replace that section of wiring and see.
