99 pontiac sunfire, while driving my car it seems as when it changes gears it jerks

the car? like when going up a hill it seems when downshifting that it will jerk to the left real quick then when it goes back it jerks to the right, what could i look at to see what the problem is, when it jerks it seems like it is changing gears when i am going higher than about35 mph,
