My g/f's 99 Sunfire seems to have alot, and I mean ALOT of pulsation in the brakes. The pads/rotors are new. Whats the problem? What should I look for? Also, lots of grinding.

Anyone? The 99 Sunfire must not be a popular car. I can never get help on any topics I post.

My brakes do similiar Pulsation. My car has 49000 miles and after I had the brakes pads replaced and the whole nine yards done to service them they have never been the same. Ive had them re-done twice. plus now the rear brakes stick!:( Freakin pontiacs

the only thing I can think would be is when the person that serviced the brakes didnt retract the caliper pistons absolutly straight, so when the brakes are applied the pads is not in full contact with the rotor. I would take the calipers off and take a staight edge to the piston to see if it is level.

Hi,
The only thing that would make your pedal pulsate would be the rotors or drums are not true, I realize that you said all items are new, but that doesnt always mean perfect.
I worked in a Garage for quite a few years and I saw my share of new rotors that were not machined right.
Also a couple of things of interest, when you tighten the lug nuts on the front and rear wheels you should be using a torque wrench, tightening in a criscross pattern, evenly to the recommended torque, impact guns are ok as long as they have a torque limiter and are set to proper torque.
Also it is very important that the back of the roter surface and the mounting flange are very clean, no dirt rust ect.as a couple of thousands of material in this area will be felt in the pedal.
Lastly if your rear shoes were adjusted a little on the tight side and you drove awhile, got your drums good and hot, then applied the parking brake real hard, that could warp your drums.
Hope this helps and "Good Luck"
Shups
