I have recently purchased a 98 Trans am and was informed of the.goodies it had only price lem is I was not told any info on them I would like to no how I may find out these things first off how do I find out can size without pulling, how do I find out if it is chipped and programmed and how do I no what shift kit it has o and does switching. To green coolant really help and it is the 98 with the 5.7 ls1 with auto Trans

On the cam you have to remove the valve covers and measure the valve lift. The duration of the cam would require a gauge mounted to the damper. On the ECU you will have to check if any changes were made by visually inspecting it, usually the chip maker has info on the chip. You can try dropping the trani pan and pulling out the valve body and checking if the plate is stamped with any info. Unclear by what you mean will green coolant help? All in all the easiest thing would be to track down the former owners.

Ok thanks and on the coolant the guy said he switched it from red to green so it would run cooler but runs hot at idle unless I run the heater

Check for anything blocking the radiator. Also check at what temperature the engine fans kick in. The fans provide most of the airflow when the car is at idle and hits a temperature of about 210.

Ya ill check that and my Trans mount is in need of replacement bad where would be the best place to get one and what is a good brand

If your looking for a stock rubber mount any of the major chains can get it, NAPA, Autozone, etc.

I want something that will.hold up to some power and what's the easiest way to hook up.my fans to a toggle

They make polly mounts for the transmissiom, but they transmit more vibration than the rubber ones. As far as the fans, put a switch on the ground side of the fan relay. Just remember that the fans will not come on if you forget to flip the switch.

Before you start any modifcations have you had all the rear suspension bushings checked for wear? Have you had the struts checked, they also may be original.

Try a local junk yard and see what they have or E-Bay or www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com In addition to the transmission and shifter you need all the clutch related components, master, slave, flywheel, disk, cover, throwout bearing, etc. Would also have to check if manual uses a different ECM.

If you plan on making any power, stay away from the 5 speed. The most common swap is the t56.

The 5 speed were weak transmissions. Thats why they were only used on V6 models. The 3rd gen f-body never had the 350 up to the 5 speed only auto because of them being weak.
