My grandson recently obtained a '98 Grand Am SE for his first vehicle. I have been volunteered to work on it.
First and foremost, with summer fast approaching, I need to get the AC working! I went and bought a can of 134 refrigerant and proceeded under the hood to recharge it. I can not find the low pressure port! There are two ports between the engine and radiator ... the high pressure (larger one) and another pretty much right under it on a plastic Tee with a green cap on it with a tag that states "low pressure service port <1 PSI" or something close to that. The tee is attached to vacuum size hoses, one of which goes to a small box on top of the compressor. The engine tag on the passenger side strut tower shows a diagram showing the evaporator can in the right front fender well, in front of the tire. I found that but, no low pressure port!
This brings my question! Someone know where the port is to charge the AC or does it have to be professionally serviced?
