People,

Have a 1987 sunbird GT but with aftermarket ac, which is not that great and noisy. Looking to install a real factory ac system inside cab- evaporator/fan/blower, along with the wiring/controls. Looked around with no luck. Any help greatly appreciated!!

Oh- do yous think I should have no problem "fitting" this system in even though my car was with no ac from factory?

Thanks!

you will have to find all the parts individually, try www.car-parts.com You are probably better off trying to fix the current system.

Major , major job... you would have to find another Sunbird and transfor everthing over , not including some newstuff for 134a freon.

Try www.vintageair.com for a universal whole kit.( probally cheapest way out )

or www.oldairproducts.com for an whole underdash kit.

Also try www.row52.com for a pick a part car near you.................................

Thanks, Mel, but the current system works. BUT, its NOT factory, meaning, it does not cool as well. It is maxed out. It can not be "fixed" to cool better/more.

Thanks, Doug. Will keep an eye open for my system but I and you kbnow it could be a long shot. I knew it wouldnt be easy. Those links, one only goes up to 1972 pontiacs. Oh well......In the end, might have to live with what I got......

You have had it checked by a qualified shop that it is fully charged, has no leaks, and there are no component issues, bad expansion valve, bad compressor etc.?
Looking for individual factory parts that are almost 30 years old and expecting them not to have issues isnt going to happen

Yes but they have " Street Rod" kits and also universal under dash units.......;)

No, because I am qualified. Dont need any shop. Ive been doing DIY ac for years. Like I said, system DOES cool. Just that it is limited. Its an AFTERMARKET "make it fit a sunbird or whatever" system sold in the 80's, and I have not much respect for those.

I agree that a 30 year old part could have issues, but most likely that is limited to the evap. I have a good condenser, good comp, good dryer, good hoses......I need the internal part- cooling unit only (box with evap/fan).
