acquired 97 2.2 need info on motors

just got a 97 sunfire 2.2l with a bad motor looking to see what other motors can fit besides the original 2.2l...not even sure what trans is in the 2.2...any ideas would be great
 
The 2.4 OHC would be the easiest direct swap.
 
nothing more powerful? and what model is the 2.4 out of...the thing is the heads bad on the old motor i thought instead of rebuilding it just swap the motor with sumthing more powerfull but if theres nothing more then a 2.4 doesnt seem worth it....then i might just end up throwing another 2.2 in it or swap the heads......
 
the 2.4 OHC was an optional engine on the sunfire and cavalier. How did you determine the head is bad?

the car was my ex's.... she over heated it real bad and it wouldnt turn over i gave her 300 bucks for it ...when i got it i found coolant in the oil so i pulled the head and sure enough the water ports and oil ports on the gasket where so badly rotted they actually corroded the head to the point its not salvageable i found a used head for 175 and a motor for 450 ...so since its just ganna be a project car i wanted to see if its possible to throw sumin "fun" in it....and id really like to convert it to standard...but from wat im seeing and hearing the car aint worth much ...maybe just throw a motor in and sell it idk
 
3.8 Buicks ( including Supercharged) and 3.4 Chevys are the high performance swaps in Sunfires. A few 2.2 Ecotec swaps also....

None are a drop in by any means.
