Have a 2004 Grand am and the anti lock system is not working at all.

Does your ABS /Trac lights in the instrument panel come on when you turn the key on? Do you have a TCS button to the left of the hazard light switch in the console (above the radio)? The reason I ask is after 2001 ABS and Traction control were made optional equipment. I don't have either on my car (2004) Usually you'll both or neither. because you can't have traction control without ABS.

Light comes on when u turn key on n goes off when u start it.Don't know about traction control button.Have to check that out. It's a friends car not mine so I'll have to look n see.

Ok, if the light goes off after starting, it should be working. Any failure in the ABS will usually set a code and you're SES will be on. If you think something is wrong, you need to take it to a shop and have them look for codes.

How did you determine the system isnt working?

Because the brakes are locking up tight.Got a bad wheel bearing on driver's side front.Im thinking it may have messed up the sensor on that wheel.

Are you sure your scanner will read ABS codes, not all will do it.

A bad hub can cause the sensor to go out. If the abs loses a signal it disables the abs.

OK. It def has a bad hub on the driver's side front wheel.Bearings got a ton of play in it and is grinding like crazy.I bought a new hub n gonna replace it today so hopefully that will fix it it.
