are valve covers painted or are they bare aluminum?

Hello I was curious if the Valve cover on a Pontiac Sunfire is painted or is just bare metal? i would like to clean it and polish it if it is bare metal or repaint it if its cast. I spoke with a GM repairman and he said they are not painted, but i cannot be sure.

other than a clear coat what paint would you think is on the valve cover?

it looks like regular metal to me but i cannot be sure, maybey it just has a clearcoat to keep the aluminum rust free etc.

try a wheel cleaner intended for aluminum wheels or if you want, paint it to match the color of your car or a complementary color
