I have an 01 Axtek AWD. The display reads AWD Disengage occasionally and I brought it to a transmission shop. They said it was a differenciator and would cost about 2500 to repair. I think he's full of it. Any help out there?

I assume it reads AWD Disable? Do you mean differential? Your owners manual lists some reasons for the light to come on. I assume you do not have your spare tire mounted on one of the rear positions? The other issue the manual lists is the fluid temperature of the differential. Change the fluid and see if that corrects the problem. You could also try replacing the sensor. Do you hear any unusual sounds from the rear?

Simple fix

I had the same problem every time I hit a bump in the road- the AWD disabled light would pop on. Turned out the indicator was bad around the sensor and they could fix it for a steep amount, but they couldn't guarantee the problem wouldn't return. I looked at what the mechanic had done and noticed what looked like duct tape around the wires under the truck. I got under the truck, used some good ol' duct tape and simply put more tape around the differentiater wires and secured the wires to the underside of the truck. Since then, I've rarely had the AWD disabled light come on. Untimately, the truck hasn't been affected by this warning light at all. Hope that helps.
