The back of my car sits just slightly lower than the front. The prior owner said he put new shocks on the front. I don't know that for sure. What do I look at to see why the back sits lower. I would the back to sit up a little higher than the front. Thanks . . . JIMB

You may need new springs in the back, does it look like it sits lower in the back, or does the front look raised?

Hard for me to tell. I have attached a picture . . can you render an opinion?

Thanks . . . JIMB

Front looks a little high. Usually you dont replace 2 shocks, you do all 4. If they installed gas shocks in the front it may account for the difference partially.

I agree, there's not much of a difference, I'd replace the rears with something equivalent, should level it out.

What would I do if I wanted the back end raised higher than the front ? replace springs in back ? replace springs in front ? air shocks on back I can adjust ? bigger tires on back ? smaller tires on front ? Thanks . . . JIMB

You can get a nice look with 245's in the rear and 235's in the front, plus if you dont know the age of the springs on the car replacing all 4 would be an idea.

Was working on the back brakes this weekend. When I had the back of car raised the back coil springs were so loose they could be moved by hand. In fact there was so much room I could probably take the springs out by hand without any issue. I have new springs coming this week. Will replace old with new and see what it looks like then. Stay tuned. Thanks . . . JIMB

Replace the rear shocks while you at it and make sure you put the new springs in the correct way, there is a diagram in the factory shop manual showing the position of the open end of the spring with relation to the axle.

Update. There were new shocks already on the car. The prior owner did replace all 4 at the same time. I did get new coils for the back and just put them on. Directions said install with small coils at the top - so I did. I measured back end height of car (left and right sides) with old vs new coils installed . .. I picked up 2 1/2 inches of height on each side. Looks much better.

excellant, did you have rubber cushions on the top of the springs? In the future if you notice a squeek from the back suspension, Pontiac put these cushions on top of the spring in latter years for the "A" body and they will also fit your year.

Good question. I did put the rubber boots (there really called something else) on the top and bottom of the springs.

sounds like the same thing but never heard of it for the bottom of the coil
