We just bought a 2000 sunfire 2.2. A day after we got the car, it stopped running. Took it back to the dealership where they replaced the fuel pump and filter. The car ran great for about a week and it acted up again and would not start. Took it back to the dealership and they replaced fuse box wiring for the fuel pump as well as relays. Now the problem is back and they wont cover it.

When I try to start the car, sometimes the fuel pump kicks on, sometimes it doesnt. I know the problem is that the fuel pump is not kicking on all the time, but what would cause it to only work when it wants to? If I start the car with starter fluid, the pump will turn on.

My ideas are, ECM? Fuel Pressure Regulator? Crank Sensor? Cam Sensor?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance...

look into the wiring harness to the computer. the computer should be in the passenger side front wheel well. disassemble the harness, clean up the wires, re-attach, and re-connect. if this was your issue, look into the plastic cover covering your computer. if its cracked in anyway, water will get in there and mess the wires and computer up
