bad rear suspension

Hello!
Have you ever considered? Do you need a air suspension?
In 2006, I removed the air suspension. I installed Gabriel gas shock absorber.(See the picture)

In 2015, I set a new spring. (See the picture)

Old spring bursted. Shock works well. I am pleased.

I was unsure if the compressor would run on start up or not, do you have any documentation that shows the correct operation of this system?

My rusty memory makes me think the compressor only runs when needed to level the system. the system is air tight when working properly so I am not seeing a need for it to run on start up.

Again this is based on memory from years ago, not known fact.

Here is the part I was curious about. this system is more complex then meets the eye.

At key up the height sensor checks ride height. If
it’s within four millimeters of the set point, there’ll
be a 30 second wait, then the compressor runs for
four seconds to guarantee adequate reserve air
pressure of eight psi. If the vehicle is out of trim,
after 20 seconds the compressor will start and run
until the desired attitude is reached – or 255 seconds,
whichever comes first. The compressor protection
portion of the height sensor logic limits run time to
255 seconds at each key cycle to prevent compressor
damage in the event of a pressure leak. The start
is always delayed 20 seconds from the call for ride
height adjustment to compensate for normal vehicle
movement and suspension travel, thereby avoiding
compressor short cycling or needless starts. The
exhaust solenoid valve actuates for 1.5 seconds with
each compressor start to reduce pressure in the
compressor head cavity and reduce startup current.
 
When my air pump started blowing fuses a few years back I installed a cheap air shock hose kit. http://www.partsgeek.com/zy3p3nz-ch..._term=ak29+monroe+shock+absorber+air+hose+kit
Same thing as this link. Just 2 lines conecteted together with a air valve. . My van sits level with no air air in the shocks. With 8 adults or heavy loads It takes about 30 psi to sit level. I just leave around 20 in all the time.
 
yeah I am pretty sure the OP will need some springs and possibly other suspension work.

Okay I put the air pump on and bolted it up to see if it worked and it did! Now my ride height is alot higher than it's ever been but not too high! I am not sure how high it is supposed to be but if I measure from the top of the tire to the bottom of the highest part of the wheel well it is about 4". Does that seem right? When I first put it on and turned the key it seemed like it stayed on forever. Eventually it did shut off. I turned the key off then back on and it ran a little shorter. I did this about 3 or 4 times until when I turned the key and it came on for 5 or 6 seconds and shut off. Thank you SOOOOO MUCH everyone for all the diagrams, answers and advise!! Now on to the drivers side window and the passenger side sliding door!
 
Well unfortunately the shocks leak so after awhile they went down. Does anyone know of a good place to get shocks for my van? 2002 Pontiac Montana AWD. Unfortunately from the places I looked( Rock Auto, Summit, Advanced Auto) they are all over $100.00 a pair! Thank you Sergei for the diagram!!

Actually not completely sure. It was getting pretty late and I had to get to work. I will check later today. Wouldn't surprise me though. Don't know how long it was driven without the pump on it. Just one thing though. Is there supposed to be a gasket when you connect the line to the dryer on the pump

I checked the lines and it just happens that it was leaking from where I connected it to the dryer. Is there supposed to be a gasket in the line when you connect it? Like an o-ring? I was working on the shocks today and the line blew off twice. The first time it scared the crap out of me LOL!

Normally these lines have a plastic retainer and under the retainer is a o ring.

I cannot say for sure yours is set up this way, it has been way too long since I worked on any level ride system.
 
Okay I have fixed where it was leaking on the dryer. The line doesn't pop off now! I went ahead and did what you said Sergei(thank you very much by the way) and I went to that website that shows how to check for leaks. I put soapy solution on all the fittings and on the shocks. Nothing was leaking.....except from the passenger side shock fitting. See picture. So does that look like enough of a leak to bring the van down after a half hour of sitting? When the van is running the compressor goes on once every 5 minutes for about 30 seconds. Does that look like it could be the shock or just the o rings in the connector? Thanks again for the help!

Yes that is a good size leak.

I still think you need springs also.
