Body on

Does anyone on here know if a 1968 Pontiac catalina frame
Will fit a 1966 body?

4160

Had to swap carbs. The 600 CFM 4160 was not the best choice for the 389, only tune-able on the primary circuit and a bit to small. Replace with 770 CFM ultra street avenger. Re-tuned, 74 to 72 primary's, 84 to 82 secondary's, 6.5 power valves in range on vacuum gauge. Gained 5 in of vac. Installed lightest advance springs in MSD @ 8' BTDC. What a difference !!!!

If you have a dial back timing light, with the vacuum advance temporarily disconnected, set the total mechanical advance to 36 degrees.

Hey Mel,

How are you ? No vacuum advance full mechanical MSD Pro billet #8563 W/A6L box and Blaster coil. What does the Master suggest ?

Well you wont like my first comment, for a street driven car you need a vacuum advance. it will run cooler, better gas mileage, and better part throttle response.
Assuming you are not going to change the distributor, two silver springs,(2,400 rpm), or one silver and one blue,(3,200 rpm), combined with a blue stop bushing (21 degrees) and an initial setting of 15 for 36 total, or green stop bushing (23 degrees) and an initial setting of 13 for a total of 36.

All comments are welcome, especially yours !!! Heck If I knew everything I would not be here... I will run the gauntlet on spring and stop bushings and find the best sweet spot. Now if this was your, what would you do ?

I think you didnt go crazy with the camshaft so I would go with the one silver and one blue spring and the green stop bushing with initial set at 13 degrees. You can also experiment with the secondary diaphragm springs but again if your wife is driving it predominately may not be worth getting into. Nice carburetor choice, I assume 86770 is the number.

You are correct 4150-86770. No not huge Comp Cam but enough to be heard. Actually the car just turned 1000 mi. It's still in sea trials, whata boat. I will make recommended changes and see what we get. Thanks for the professional advise !!!! Have a good day, TODD
