My Sunfire just tried to kill me. I replaced the brake booster about 2 years ago, because the other was shot. Now, intermittently, when applying the brakes, I get a hard, nonpower assisted pedal and the engine suddenly revs up real high. Usually, letting off the pedal for a second and reapplying solves the problem. Today, I didn't have that options and as soon as laxed up pressure on the pedal, the car jumped straight out into traffic. I'm sitting here thanking God that there was no oncoming traffic.

This only happens occasionally and didn't start this crap until after replacing the booster. Testing the booster with the normal testing procedures reveals nothing. I'm breaking my brain trying to decide if it's some sort of internal diaphragm leak or if the vacuum line is collapsing or just what the heck is going on, but whatever it is, I've got to get it corrected before someone gets killed.

How about some thoughts on this one?

replace the line and the booster, the hard pedal is loss of vaccuum and the engine reving is a vaccuum leak.

I figured that, but wonder if it's limited to just the booster since that's all that was changed. Guess a couple extra bucks for the vacuum hose wouldn't hurt. What I still don't get is, the intermittent thing. I can go for days without it happening, then out of the blue, it does this.
