My dad has a 1971 trans am. We bought it with aftermarket disc brakes already on the rear and we had to put front calipers on it. The problem is we can't get any brake pedal we have bleed the brake a ton bench bleed the master cylinder. And still the same. You can see all the calipers moving and just fluid when you bleed them. It only brakes a little bit. It's like you have a pump the brakes to get them to work good. And you guys know you need to stop with a built 455!!!

Probably the master has failed and needs rebuidling or replacement.

We bought a new one from autozone. Thought it was the problem got a new one and still the same

You are starting with the right rear, left rear, right front, left front? There is only one bleed screw on the rears? Are you getting normal fluid flow from the rears, the proportioning valve isnt jammed? You are tapping the calipers with a rubber mallet when bleeding to loosen any air bubbles? The distance between the brake booster rod and the back of the master cylinder piston is correct? None of the brake hoses has an internal collapse?

Wow lot to cover! But basically no we not doing any of these. I'm not sure what normal pressure is but when you undo the bleeders the fluids squirts out . Yes the rear calipers only have one bleeder valve that I'm aware of. How do you adjust the distinct from the booster to the brake?

Not to sound rude or anything but why do bleed the brakes in this order?

The order is longest distance from the master cylinder to shortest. It's the most efficient order for bleeding out the air.

Do you have the correct master cylinder and proportioning valve for a disk brake conversion?

We just got the master cylinder from auto zone I think my dad ordered one for. 78 ta and the proportioning valve is off a 4 wheel disc brake car as well. Is there something else we should have?

Autozone doesnt list a 4 wheel disc master until 1979, did you state the wrong year or did you get the wrong master?

Sorry I think I stated it wrong we did get the master cylinder for a 4 wheel disc brake

Look in the rear brake line port and make sure it does not have a small valve in it, should look the same as the front brake line port. Can you post the autozone number you bought?

Not really sure what you mean by the brake port. Ill check the # on the master cylinder when I get home I'm in school right now

I was looking through the tips and under bleeding the lines the they have a picture of calipers with bleeder screws up and side ways. The rear calipers on the car are side ways so could this be the problem? You can physical see the calipers moving in the rear. And also we tried bench bleeding the master cylinder on the car so this may be our problem as well. I haven't checked the # of the master cylinder yet. On the rear of the car there is a t fitting where both rear lines com together then then a rubber line comes off that and the line that connects front to rear goes into that. When my dad pumps the brakes I can hear a swooshing sound. In that rubber line. Is that just fluid or air in there as well

did you bleed them in the sequence I stated? Is the rear up in the air so any air in the lines will go up? Did you tap the calipers with a rubber mallet to dislodge air bubbles?

No we only get to work on it on weekends. Haven't touched it since Saturday. Kinda getting discouraged about the brakes

Don't be discouraged. It takes a lot of patience to bleed the entire brake system the old fashioned way. Just follow the suggested sequence and take your time. It'll get done if you have all the right components.

Did the brakes work correctly when you purchased the car? Why did you change the front calipers? Do you have the master that was on the car when you bought it?

The car was incomplete when we bought it it had the rear disc conversion and all the lines. But had no front calipers didn't have brake booster or master cylinder either but all the lines were there
