brakes

[65 CAT]

I'm working on a 65 catalina ,rebuilt the 389,installed an oversize camshaft.It messed with the power brakes,took away the vaccum was what I was told so I installed vaccum canister and still no brakes.So I switched to manual brakes.Now the petal is hard as a rock with no freetravel at all and still will not stop.Where do I go from here? Have you adjusted the brakes? Have you inspected the wheel cylinders? Have you actually removed the vacuum booster or is it still installed (manual)? Is the pedal stroke correct for your brake configuration? Just some questions for thought.
