Hi everybody,
for my 65 Lemans Convertible i need a little help concerning the hydrolectric conv. top mechanism.
I' m not quiet sure if i should use the recommended GM hydraulic break fluid #11 or is it also o.k. or even better, to take automatic transmission oil?

Thanx and best wishes from Germany

I try to use the recommended fluids whenever I can.

The exception to this would be if your trying to solve a problem.

Brake fluid can wreck a paint job if you spill some, Brake fluid will also pull moisture right out of the air.

My suggestion would be to use Transmission fluid if you flush the system out properly.

If your just looking to top the fluid off, check the fluid to see if it is contaminated with water. if not, top off with the brake fluid.

My point is transmission fluid is better if your restoring a car and have the system apart anyways.

If your just looking to rid yourself of the water absorbing paint wrecking fluid that is currently in the system, take the proper precautions to protect your paint before messing around with it.

Thanx for answering immediatly, EaOutlaw!
I equipped the whole system, 'cause I did a frame off resto. So it makes sense to replace the fluid and take Transmission fluid.

Best wishes

Thilo
