Hey guys

I need some help I realise this is more of a general engine question. I have a 1976 Firebird formula with a 1971 455. It has been rebuilt everything has been replace with new on the inside. Now I know that when you do your cam break in you need to run it 20 to 30 minutes no load but I had multiple issues. My alternator was sending voltage to the casing then so I had to replace it (it was brand new). For some reason the rear main let go the second time I ran it (f me) and its leaking bad. I was not able to run it more then 7 to 10 minutes the second time and the first time it ran maybe 3 to 5 I had nasty sparks on the alternator. Did I do any damage to my engine. I cant run it right now do to rear main splashing oil on headers and it starting a fire.

Thanks

probably not but of more importance is what oil do you have in the engine?
assuming you are using an original type flat tappet hydraulic cam you need an oil high in ZDDP since most modern oils are designed for roller tappet hydraulics which do not have the same wear issue that a flat tappet does. Personally on my older cars I use Valvoline VR1 10W30 in the silver bottle. Read the link below for more information
