So my timing chain broke and the mechanic diagnosed bent valves on my 2002 Pontiac Sunfire. The guy estimating that repair costs amount to about $3,500 (I have no idea if this is the just price to charge for this). This is, of course, outrageous for a poor grad student . So I've decided that I will do the whole thing myself and I need to consult a manual that may guide me through the whole process in the most precise of ways, step by step. Can someone help me out with this?

You will need to replace the head,(complete with all of the valves) the head bolts timing chain and sprockets and all the assorted gaskets that go with the operation ..
seriously you could get a entire engine for $3500.00..
but it does take quite a bit of work to do yourself I would NOT suggest it if you have not done one before ...just look for a better deal or check into having a used engine installed
(should be cheeper)

is this common for the chains to break? and why you reckon they break? thanks
