No, I didn't die. I had a thumb injury that slowed down my restoration work and made it a real pain in the neck to type with my right thumb and wrist in a brace. Anyway, I'm back at it now. Since I couldn't do any heavy work like the rear-end swap that's coming up, I busied myself building the coolest mobile tool rack you've ever seen. I noticed the size of the carburetor, 650 is a little on the small size for a engine as large as yours. Try it out but I'm pretty sure you will find hidden horsepower by going to a larger carburetor.
 
I'm sure you're right. Once I get her running and looking good, I'll have money for improvements. For now, that carb was working ok.
 
So, my son the mechanic has really been after me to fire up the rebuilt engine. I was ready for him when he stopped by the house Saturday. The conversation went like this...

Jason: What ya doing?

Me: Starting up the new engine in the hot rod the easy way.

Jason: Looks like you're putting U-joints in the driveline.

Me: Well, before I can turn the key I needed to bleed the brake line because stopping seems important. So, now is the easiest time to take out the old rear axle and put the new one in. The easiest way to do that was to take out the gas tank since I was going to replace it anyway. The easiest way to get it out was to take off the rear bumper which will get replaced also. After I took the axle out I decided this is the easiest time to replace this U-joint.

Jason: Now I understand why you think I had an easy childhood.

Radiator's in. This week I'm doing electrical and plan to light a fire in the engine I rebuilt this coming Saturday (1/09/16). The electrical will only be temporary because I want to rebuild some of it and re-route it.

Thanks. Like I said it was my first attempt at a rebuild. I used Rocky Rotella's book "How to Rebuild Pontiac V-8s" and just went slow and meticulous.
 
It's been a while since I posted. Life got in the way. Now that I have the old girl running, it's time to start the body work.

I'm back. I had to take some time off from the Lemans project to spend some time learning a few welding and body work skills. Sheesh! They don't call it bodyWORK for nothing. I should start making some solid progress now. I just wasn't happy with what I was doing and needed to develop some skills. It looks like it added another year to my drive date.
