Need help. 2002 Aztek. Check engine light, evap code gas gauge wonky. cleaned the male & fem connectors on the underside. No change. Got my hand under the carpet, and wiggled wire harness a bit, gas gauge seems to have straightened out, but I still have the evap code (p0449, I think) . C305 has been replaced before I bought the car, with butt-splices on the female side. I cut and stripped the white wire from pin 3F. With the Aztek running, I checked for voltage with a VOM (-lead to ground, +lead to white wire. Question: shouldn't I be getting voltage at that point? I'm not quite ready to take apart the inside of the interior to get to the top of the connector. Heck, I don't know, could it even be my gas cap? I have to pass emissions to get my plates, I'm going nuts...

code and gas cap

put the gas cap from my wife's sonoma on, drove to autozone, bought the cheapo code scanner/clearer, cleared the code, drove to get a pizza, shut off car, start up, no check light. drove home, shut car off, started, no check light, shut off, plugged in reader, no p0449! sure seems like gas cap

Have you filled the tank and topped it off with fuel past the first click and release of the fuel nozzle possibly allowing raw fuel to contaminate the charcoal canister and vent valve?

Solved

The gas cap thing was superfluous. I had fixed it earlier in the day, but had no way to tell. Autozone employee told me it takes "3 drive cycles for the code to clear" I asked what a drive cycle was. "About 50 miles" she said. Anyway...tt was in the pigtail on the underside connector. Bought a $50 code reader/clearer. How are you supposed to know when it's fixed, when Autozone (and the other chains, I'm sure) claim that their clear function was eliminated due to "liability issues"? And yeah, I tried every battery-code-clearing trick I could find on the internet. No dice, not on a 2002 Aztek. Anyway, now I've got the cheapo reader/clearer so I'll know when I've resolved an issue. Thanks to everyone who previously posted on the evil C305 (ectomy, etc.)
