I have a 1963 Pontiac Catalina with the 389 tri-power. I went out to start my car today and let it run for a short time since it hadn't been started in a week. When I pulled it back in the garage and shut it off, I noticed while looking the motor over that there was coolant near the pump. There is no leak around the water pump and the bolts are tight. I noticed that the coolant seemed to be coming from a part attached to the intake manifold and I cannot find any info on it and don't know what the part is called or why it did this. Any help would be appreciated. I have included a picture of where the coolant came from.

Water Bypass 1960 I think, what is the casting # of the manifold?

You can see in one of the pics they just made a plate out of 1/8 steel and took it out and blocked it .
Something to do with heater hoses or something, has a valve in it?

That is the mounting for the thermostatic switch that controlled the vacuum to the 2 end carbs on the early vacuum controlled Tri-Powers. If your Tri-Power is controlled by the better progressive linkage from the center carb, you do not need it, And you can use a block off plate.
