i have a CEL on in my sunfire and i was wondering if anyone can help me. i got the code ckecked and it said it was an evaporatory code. i thought it might be the gas cap cuz thats what i was told it might be but my gas cap is fine. im guessing its a vaccum leak. anybody have any idea what it might be?

either your gas cap or a leak somewhere in the evaporative control system.

hi...I'm new to this forum, but not a newbie on car forums....my daughter just picked up an '05 and it threw a CEL code. I scanned it and got P0455 - EVAP system fail - gross leak. And, yeah - it is usually the gas cap, but I ruled that out too, and soon found that the charcoal canister solenoid was sticking - it was clicking when power was applied, but not moving. Since the solenoid is located inward from the right rear tire, it gets a lot of dirt in that area - I removed the solenoid, took it apart, cleaned it with air and a little silicone spray, it started working again and no more CEL....this might be worth checking out in your case, too.
