Hello im looking to put electric fans on my car and was wondering what cfm I would need. Its a 69 lemans with a 400.

Can you provide a link to what you are looking at in order to determine what the fan manufacturer suggests?

Its for the cooling system I need to know about how many cfm the fan needs to move to keep the car cool.

I allways used Taurus 2 speed E fans I got at junkyards.

Had 1 in my 425 Cadillac powered Monza Drag car, never overheated at the strip even at 115 * heat one summer, even idling for 20 minutes.

Had 1 in my 2.2 S10 , cooled like it was in a freezer, never overheated in the AZ heat.

Found that V8's need 2800 CFM and up....................

Here's some info on factory fans cfm:

Okay by what iv read online think I would be okay with 3500 cfm now to find fans that can move that much

Is there a reason you want to go to an electric fan?

Yes when I get stuck in traffic my cars temp will slowly start to go up. Even when its only 65 outside.

Hey just wanted to let you this is 69pontiac69 I remember my old log in.

Fan Clutch

What temperature thermostat are you running? Have you checked your fan clutch for signs of leaking silicon? Do you have any loss of coolant?

do you have the factory radiator shround? Assuming you do, I would get rid of the flex fan, put a thermostatic fan clutch and the factory fan.

I do have it. And ill have to look up the right fan then.

when you say "it" , you mean the shroud? Look in the GTO catalog from www.amesperf.com for the fan and you can get the fan clutch locally or from Ames.

Yes sorry I do have the shroud. And I found both the fan and clutch on summit racings web sit.

you found a 19" fan at summit?

Melsg5 is right on about the fan and the shroud. There is also an issue with pontiac water pump divider plates. From the factory, many have too much of a gap between the divider plate and the pump impeller causing poor coolant flow. Light taps with a hammer can easily fix this. Your ignition timing can also effect coolant temps.

The water pump and devider are both new and I made sure about the gap. Im not sure on its timing.
