Check Engine qustion.

Recently my firebird started showing a "blinking" check engine it usually doesnt happen very offten, but recently I have been seeing blink a little bit more than usually.What would be the problem, becasue everytime that happens the car shakes and it has that nasty smell to it thats coming from the exhust. The only thing that I can think of that might help is a tune up, but I'm not really sure about it becasue I'm not a mechanic.

You need the engine code to be read by a scanner. You dont mention what year but autozone does free reads if your car is new enough to have OBDII.
