Cigarette Lighter Not Working

My cigarette lighter has not been working for a long time now. I haven't really worried about it till now, cause I want to get a car charger for my gf's and my cell phones.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows how to change a cigarette lighter? I already checked the fuse, the fuse is fine and it's the correct amperage.

I would check for voltage at the cig lighter and work backwards from there.

If the fuse is good and I plug something into the cigarette lighter and it doesn't work then of course I'm not getting voltage.

Plus, I asked how to change a cigarette lighter. I didn't ask how to test it.

Basically they are connected by a wire / plug and a small nut. Some are pretty easy to get at and dont require removal of the trim, others do require it.

you simply need to look around the location of the lighter, and determine the best way to remove them. Some of them do require light bit if prying and pulling to work out if they are put in in goofy locations. Post pics of location and trim and I can see if I can tell you more.

Most auto parts stores carry them for less that 5 dollars. The important thing is that you get a complete one with lighter and and socket so you can test it with known good parts.

What I was eluding to was the wiring behind the socket may need fixed and your cig lighter may be fine? Unless you can see that the cig lighter/socket is toast then never mind my comments.
