I've been driving Leona for about 6 months since getting her back on the road. Now the clutch is slipping. So, I've ordered a new one from Rock Auto, and new 1/2 shaft seals and a new rear main oil seal.

She has 170k on her and I don't think the timing belt has ever been changed. So, while I've got her in the garage its time. She deserves it, along with a new water pump and tensioner.

Heck, I've been thinking about that new chevy cruze diesel hatchback manual. But after a new clutch/timing belt. All I need to replace is the exhaust system and Shoot, I don't need a new car payment!!

She starts/runs great! I've replaced the fuel pump. Had a new windshield installed. New shifter cable. The A/C works like a champ! and she's got new tires to boot!

you may want to replace the slave cylinder while you have everything apart

Did that trying to get some more life out of the clutch. Replaced the clutch master cylinder as well. I replaced the clutch about 8 yrs ago but it sat for 4 years. I thought the clutch was rusty and would smooth out after some miles. Maybe I replaced it more than that many years ago and its got more miles than I can remember. :-)

The wife drove it for a few years before it was my turn. She bought a used accord and never gave Leona another look.

I also got 2Qts of the special synchromesh oil that the Isuzu transmission calls for.

I remember there is a forward facing big bolt that was hard to see that threads into the bell housing. Other than that I don't recall the transmission r&r any more difficult than normal. Any tips ?

Disconnect Battery
disconnect shift cables, slave cylinder and plastic line
raise car n block behind front wheels
remove starter
remove 1/2 shafts
remove secret bellhousing bolt, then support trans and remove remaining bellhousing bolts
remove transmission
remove clutch assy
remove flywheel get machined if needed
replace rear main seal
reassemble in reverse.

okay I left out a few things:

Had to chock rear wheels not front.
Had to remove left side support from frame (has lower control arm attached)
removed vent line
removed plug from rear near oil dipstick
removed remaining mount bolts and upper and lower mounts
removed bellhousing bolts
transmission is out!!!

Was as far as I got. have not removed clutch yet
I don't remember having to remove so much last time
I don't remember my back complaining as much either!

Okay update!
Replaced the rear main oil seal (easy).
Reinstalled flywheel, new clutch assembly.
installed new throw out bearing with new retainer. Cleaned and lubricated all fork mechanisims
Installed new axle shaft seals.
put a tiny bit of grease on shaft splines.

I believe I'm ready to stab the transmission next.
just as soon as my back recoups from all the above.

Okay Update!
I have installed the transmission!
I've learned the skill of operating a floor jack with my leg while holding the transmission
with my hands!
Now I need to reinstall all the stuff that had to come off in the first place.
Still waiting on the timing belt kit and cover gaskets to arrive.

I can picture that 3 limb process clearly

Haha! You've been there done that eh?
Got the starter back in and wired up.
battery back in and charged up.
The short left axle back in and bolted up to the spindle.
I need new ball joint boots or I need to find some large dia hose to cut.....

Taking a break and headed to hunting lease to spread some lime and fert on my food plot this weekend. Its time to dig out the crossbow and shoot a few rounds.

The timing belt/water pump/tensioner arrived. I'll resume the project next week.
if my energy don't run out :-)

Update!
Got the rt side 1/2 shaft installed, both lower ball joints in and cotter pins in. (pita)
Installed left wheel/tire. left rt side off due to timing belt R&R.
The service manual says loosen the serpentine tensioner bolt to allow it to swing down out of the way of the timing belt cover.....
What they don't tell you is where the heck that bolt is!! After removing unnecessary bolts I finally discovered its installed from the rear of the dang tensioner!! You cant see it unless you use a mirror and a light! I discovered it using the braile method. I went ahead and removed the whole dang tensioner.(170K on her) might as well get a new one since I'm there. I removed the outer belt cover and wow! That belt is just about to pop! Threads showing thru and chunks missing from numerous teeth! I'm surprised at how well the engine has been running. definitely avoided being stranded this time!

Anyway more later!

I guess you really got lucky on that belt
