I own a 2003 Pontiac Montana that refuses to start once the engine gets hot, but never in the red zone. Normally just above the half way mark on the temperature gauge.

During the summer months, occasionally after driving the car refuses to restart once cutoff. Once the engine cools, after an hour or two depending on the outside temperature, the car will start and run without a problem.

Coolant fluid level and quality is good. The water pump was replaced this past fall. The radiator fans run when the air condition is on, but don’t appear to operate when the engine temperature raises.

I've taken my car to various mechanics, none have detected any problems. Each states that I should have the car towed to them when it fails to start. The problem is that in the time it takes to tow the car the engine cools and all is fine.

Any ideas and how to test them are greatly appreciated.

When you say it doesnt start, do you mean it cranks but wont ignite or it doesnt even crank?
