So at some time (not very quickly) after I turn off my 1969 350 2bbl, I am getting coolant coming out the overflow tube. I haven't put a cup down there to measure it, but it's way more than a few drops - probably a few ounces or more. I put a new radiator cap on it, but that didn't help.
Should I not worry about why it's happening and just install a coolant reservoir to prevent to leakage, or is this the sign of a problem that I need to address before something else goes wrong?
As a side issue, before I put on the new cap this appeared to be the only place where coolant was leaking. After the new cap, I noticed coolant leaking out by the firewall, and assume it's a leak in the heater core.
Question: For a temporary fix on that leak, can I disconnect the input and output heater hoses going to the core and connect them together with a nipple to keep the flow going. As much as a car heater is used in Houston, TX, this could almost be a permanent "fix"
The inspection that I got from Road Ready Certified said "no leaks". Just my luck that a problem arose right after taking possession....
