Coolant type for 98 Pontiac Sunfire?

I got a 98 pontiac sunfire second hand. When I put the standard coolant in it just evaporated and my engine overheated. Someone told me that I have to use a better coolant for my engine. How can I find out which type of coolant to use without going to a mechanic? I tried searching for a users manual but no luck.
my friend put a different type of coolant in the car and it didn`t overheat. I`m trying to find that coolant. The liquid was blue.

I agree with the first answer. You may have a bad water pump if it's never been changed.

if it evaporated you have other problems that the coolant type you are using. you either have a leak or a bad gasket somewhere. you better take it to a shop for repairs.
