Hi.

1997 Sunfire, up to about 410,000 miles now.

I bought this car with about 180,000 miles on it, and have put the last 230,000 miles on it.

Most trouble free car I have ever had. Love it. I overfill my tires, drive about 200 miles a day going 65, and get an honest-to-god 43-47mpg.

The entire time I have had it, the cooling fans have never come on by themselves. You have to turn on the AC light for the fan(s) to come on. Otherwise the temp will slooooooowwwwlllyyyy rise when not moving.

Getting tired of having to keep an eye on the gauge, where is the sensor I have to replace to fix this. No CEL.

I know how to use the search feature. Every thread seems to have a problem slightly different to mine. Also some say there is one sensor, some say two. Just looking for a straight out answer. Please don't tell me to use the search button. That's my biggest pet peeve with online forums. Thanks.

Also, to turn the radio up/down you have to pull the volume knob to one side to turn it up and down. It has become increasingly difficult over the last few months to get the volume to change. Is there any contacts or anything I could clean inside the radio to fix this easily? Thanks again.

1. Which engine 2.2 or 2.4?
2. You can buy electrical contact cleaner and try to spray it into the volume control either down the shaft of the knob or remove the radio and open it up.

1. The good 'ol 2.2.

2. Guess it's just something I'll have to poke around with :) and hey, if it doesn't work, a radio with bluetooth would be nice to have, right?

you should see the sensor right behind the alternator

And here I thought it would be a nightmare to get to. I was assuming it was on some horrible place on the back of the radiator or something. Thanks melsg5!

The amount of help you give people on this forum is unparalleled. Thank you for all that you do.

I am having the exact same problem with my 99 Sunfire. I took it to the mechanic last week and they couldn't figure out the problem. Now I have some answers! Thanks to all! :)
