I recently bought a 2002 Grand Am, 90K miles, beautiful inside and out. Love this car! However, two days ago I smelled what seemed to be plastic burning from under the hood and then I smelled it again today. None of the dashboard lights are on - yet. This evening I popped the hood... then stood there looking puzzled... then shut it because I have no idea what to look for.
The only other thing I can think to mention is that the interior light didn't work when I bought it but I haven't been concerned about it and haven't tried to replace it.
I know I should take it to a mechanic but I wanted to see if I could get some kind of input/advice before I do. I don't actually know a mechanic and am skeptical about finding someone who is trustworthy. Other vehicles that I've owned were always under warranty so I would take them to the dealership. And I already know that if I'm paying cash a dealership is the last place I want to take it.
I would seriously appreciate any input/advice you might be able to provide. Thanks
