Cranks but won't always start

My wife has been complaing that her Torrent will not always start. I was with her the other night and it took three tries before it would run after she put her foot down on the throttle. It cranks over great but would sputter and not keep running. No check engine light flashes or anything. Looking for a direction to go in to try and diagnose this issue.

when is the last time it had a basic tuneup, plugs, filters, plug wires if it has them?

was told when we bought it last year that stuff was all done by the dealer but I guess you can't always trust that. It has 110,000 on it when we bought it.

normally do you just turn the key to engage the starter with your foot off the gas pedal, you mentioned your wife had her foot to the floor?

Yes just normally turn the key with the foot off the pedal. That's why this seems very weird.
