i have a 2002 sunfire gt and one day i was driving and everything was nice and quiet but when i slowed down there was a loud creaking noise and i check the wheel bearings and they seem good. does anyone have any suggestions, the next thing i will try is to look at the transmission, it is a manual.

Please Help
Thanks

do you only hear the sound when stepping on the brakes

no it is not the brakes, the noise happening when you stop accelerating so at constant speed and it gets louder when you let go of the gas peddle to slow down.

have some one drive and you listen to where it is , id say probability of bearings. its a tough one to figure without hearing it. it might be a throw out bearing? maybe a pilot bushing. could be a spent friction disk . you got to diag it first. but i got a suspicion that the tranny got to come out to see it . does it change when you push in the clutch and cruise? feel free to lay on the floor to find it. you might have too. sound travels.
