Cutting out under throttle

Bought a 2003 Grand Am the other day at a auction. Hauled the car home and started to clean it up and check the engine out. Battery was dead so I boosted the car and it idles fine. However when I give the car fuel it cuts out and sputters badly. Haven't driven the car other than around my yard. Have yet to hook up my scanner yet just curious if you guys had any quick thoughts about it. I will hook it up asap to check for codes just been swamped and hadn't had a chance yet, raining everyday lately.

I'd check the plugs for sure. If you don't have AC/Delco or NGK double platinum or Iridium plugs in it they won't run well for long.

Ok will do...supposed to have some good weather today so I will check them for sure.
 
What happened wit this problem? My 2000 is doing the same thing. I give it gas and it sputters and sounds like I am driving a stick, and starting from a complete stop in 3rd or 4th gear.
