Oh dude for SURE rebuild your car/fix it. You could end up buying some piece of shit with horrible electrical problems or worse. If all you need is a new suspension all around put in the whole kit assembly, new struts and springs all in one pre made package.

If you have a great car that needs a little work, do the work and keep that great car:)

Got a 96 2.2 manual and LOVE IT. It came with a cold air intake, brand new brakes, rotors and drums, but so far I've had to redo wheel bearings and my suspension is next. I hope to keep this car for at least 5 years.

I got a 2003 which did not have the same luck as you guys. The timing chain tensioner went bad and everything went south real quick after that. Had to replace the engine because it threw a rod, and now I'm gonna have to redo the suspension. I have a feeling that the engine was gonna go soon anyways after I took it out and looked at it. The previous owner obviously didn't do many oil changes on it. But everyone that I know that has or had a sunfire loved it and had no problems.

the 2.2's were notorious for snapping timing chains as the tensioner would go. my g'fs cav had the same problem at 210xxxKM, but fortunate enough, it didnt throw a rod (as far as we know lol). thats the main reason why i dont like the 2.2, cuz for someone that doesnt know motors, or how to fix it, it ends in a dead car and the owner bad mouthing the car company.

lol the one thing i don't like about the car, other than the whole thrown rod and snapped timing chain, the interior is literally falling apart. both door panels are falling off, the center console is crap and the vents are pretty much all jacked up and either don't turn or busted in half and are a pain to turn. other than that, its a pretty nice car still. i never had any major problems with gm's before this one, so i can't really bad mouth gm. also, engine swaps are actually pretty easy with the 2003 at least. first one i did and i was winging it and its runnin like a champ now.
